Quotes
Kind words from fellow herbalists, clients, students and readers!
Kiva, it is true that we learn from the plants and experience but without the encouragement from you and your teachings I am not sure I would be the herbalist I am today. Your class and counsel has been transforming for me and I continue to reap the benefits of your teachings daily. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have you both as a dear friend and mentor. Your canyon medicines are amazing!
- Angie Goodloe, Herbalist and Medicine Woman Student
Kiva Rose inspires me. Her passion, fascination and perpetual curiosity of plants, people, nature, and the relationship that binds them in wholeness stirs those touched by it; encourages our own listening, our own insights and musings. Making it all better, she writes beautifully. Her ability to capture and convey the spirit of the plants she writes about and the essence of the ideas that guide their use is a gift shared with both humility and mettle. Kiva, in a word, rocks.

All the props in the world to Susun Weed, Rosemary Gladstar, Michael Moore, etc. for laying the foundation, now I can’t wait to see what the younger folk bring to it. And Kiva, you are the leading voice of this generation.

Kiva has the best medicine woman blog hands down. Her writing is brilliant. She is a true wise woman, inspiring, empowering, knowledgeable, and her plant descriptions and pictures are superb. She add a personal touch to her posts that make the reading and learning easy, fun, and thought provoking.

One of the partners that sustains herself on the land, and assists in nurturing Anima, is Kiva Rose… I find her to be wise, inspiring, inquisitive and kind…and surefooted, as she walks the land and learns from the green growing things. This woman lives off the land, and stokes the fires for living a life of passion and grace. She has a way of making you feel as if you sit right beside her, sipping a cup of delicious tea as she shares with you her understanding of herbs, her respect for the land she walks.
-Kimberly Arana, Herbalist, Propriatress of The Blessed Thistle

As an outsider to the herbalist tradition I read the story of the foot with baited breath. I admire your courage and confidence so much! This case sounds like it was a big test for you, and I am very glad you shared it with us and that everything turned out well. Thank you for teaching us about the weeds and the medicine woman tradition and most of all, about dedicated, patient service. May the earth always bless you.

What a delightful, rambling monologue! I just adore the way you write- as if you were sitting across the table from me drinking tea on a sunny summer day. I am a wannabe medicine woman/herbalist/healer. But, I am at the very start of this exploration, though I recently realized that my chosen lifepaths have lead to this all my life. I have read several books, but have had no opportunity to talk with others who have more knowledge in these areas than my meager compilation.
Like a sponge, I will eagerly read all of your posts, gleaning as much knowledge as I can. Thank you for your bright, beautiful webpage and know that it is very much appreciated by this woman.
-Scythia, Reader
thank you. this was beautiful and wise, and just what i needed to hear more about right now.

I just found your blog a couple of days ago… Wow! It’s so full of beauty and information. With three little ones at home, it took me awhile to read through all of your archived posts, but I devoured them in my every spare minute. I’ve only just started on my own medicine woman path, so I look forward to all your subsequent postings. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your love of our kindred spirits, the herbs, with the world.

Kiva, I have occasion to read your blog and have to say that you inspire me so much. It just proves to me that the only way we can truly learn the language of plants is to learn from the plants themselves. I spent 9 years studying herbal medicine through books at a college. I have learnt more in the last 6 months from the plants themselves than what i learned in all that time in a man-made institution. After reading of your experiences with the wild green I am loathe to think that I could call myself a herbwyfe. Thank you for being an inspiration, for letting the rest of us know what it actually means to work with plants.
-Michelle Carnochan, Australia
Your deep love of and connection with the plants just shines through in your writing. And you write beautifully. What gifts you have!
-Julie James, herbalist with 20 years experience, East Village Wellness, Long Beach, CA
…that is why we appreciate you so much Kiva, you seem to reach out in your own way in this path. And you don’t look much older than my oldest daughter (who turned 24 a few weeks ago) which makes me stand in awe of your passionate knowledge.
-Kristena Roder, Wyoming, Rocky Mountain Herbwife
Kiva, I just wanted to share with you how happy (excited! and thankful also come to mind) I was to come across your writings, and Anima Sanctuary itself. What you (and your partners) are doing collectively there in the Gila is just… well, beautiful, enchanting and inspiring in every sense of the word. I felt gratitude that there are still people out there doing what you are all doing, to honor Mama Nature… So, again, just a little gratitude coming your way, for sharing your oasis, for your obvious passion and commitment. -Kimb’
Kiva, I have been quietly reading and digesting your writings from your blog and the Wise Woman Forum for a couple of years. I have also poured over the Anima Center teachings. Wonderful information and teachings! I am in absolute awe of your dedication to the plant world and healing medicines…. Looking forward to many new stories from the Gila and how you came to be a medicine woman. With gratitude and many blessings for your teachings,
-Annie

I am totally stunned by your website and that of the Anima Center. I’ve had this image in my mind for quite some time of being a Medicine Woman, a curandera — but even with all the teachings and deepenings I’ve pursued and am pursuing, I just haven’t allowed myself to wear that mantle, to think I might be ‘worthy’ or ‘knowledgeable or intuitive enough’ or any of a number of qualities. I didn’t have the ‘certificate’ or blessing from the elder. But I’m receiving such amazing teachings everyday — from the mountains, the running of the elk and deer, the stars–and from people I stumble upon, just in town — or here on the web: yourself. Thank you for your many, beautiful, heartful words. I feel as if indeed I have been blessed by an elder! Tonight I realize I have all I need to step forward with the mantle of commitment and purpose. Gracias!
