I love this topic of local weeds... I try to find plants that grow around my home and woods that grow abundantly and cover my basics. Here are a few of my favorites... elderberry, yellow dock, dandelion, nettle, peppermint, yarrow, queen anne's lace, plantain, comfrey (very useful on this farm!), and if I hike up the hill a bit, oregon grape and salal. I hope to tune in more often so I can catch the next blogparty on time, thanks to all.

thanks, Kiva! I scrolled through Rebecca's posts on the blog party and came up with the original: http://crabappleherbs.com/blog/2007/04/29/invitation-to-an-herbal-blog-party/

I'm not (yet?) an herbalist, but I love plants and sometimes write about them... I'll have to keep tabs on the this blog party and see if there're topics I can join.

Yay, Rebecca! Angie told me hers will be done soon too, so hopefully we'll have a proper party by this evening.

neighbor, the best description is from Rebecca's site at http://crabappleherbs.com/blog/2007/10/15/blog-party-update/
but I, Darcey and Rebecca all posted about it. Just write a post of any length on the topic and then email me the link, or even post it here in the comments for me and I'll list it on the blogparty post. Don't worry if you're a bit late, I can just edit the post and add you in later and then let people know there was an update.

it's open to anyone who's interested and has a website or blog. Or, even if you don't I'd be willing to host your entry on my blog.

Kiva,

I've looked all over for information on the blog party and don't have any idea where to find it... is there a description? is it open to the general "public?"

lately I'm a pretty irregular blogger, but maybe this would inspire me??

Hmmm, still no more submissions. If I don't get any more tomorrow I'm back to my normal blogging schedule.

Jan, I thought I'd get eaten up by bugs here too, seeing as the desert is known for its bugs and snakes. We do have some mosquitoes here but they go to bed before we do, because even in the summer the nights are pretty cool. There's lots of scorpions and such but they have the sense to leave us alone most of the time.

Seems as if there's some extreme drought or flood no matter which way I turn, hard for the plants either way.

Thanks for reading!

I run a community garden in our local town Deniliquin N.S.W Australia, we are going through a severe drought the town is on water restrictions so to maintain our garden plots is quite the challenge.
Our town is extremely flat the only hills are ant hills, so wide open plains has it's own beauty.
Your blog sounded like dreamtime to me....would be eaten alive by aussie bugs if we slept out in the open, have done so when bushwalking, covered by a mossie net and repellent.
