No, it&#039;s not true... they&#039;re referring to the small amounts of cyanide in the seed most likely.... but as long as you don&#039;t eat the actual seeds you won&#039;t have any problems. I NEVER cook my berries before tincturing them, I find that cooking the berries makes their antiviral action much weaker.</description>

I buy dried elderberry &#039;berries&#039; the &#039;nigra&#039;black ones, and then I wash them and then soak them in a glass jar with brandy only for 2 months, then I strain the berries and pour the dark purplish elixir into a glass bottle. Then use 1/2 teaspoon in 250ml of water each day. 
Recently I was told that I should be cooking the berries first? Something about toxins / poison like arsenic?  Does anyone know if this is true?
